Tag Heuer has announced the official launch of the Meridiist, the first luxury mobile phone of this watch brand. Their partner in this venture is Modelabs, a company based in Paris which works as a Customized Design Manufacturer (CDM) that design, develop and distribute mobile phones, accessories, and services for operators, retailers and major brands as Hummer, Levis and MTV. The product idea came from a design meeting in the Swiss company’s headquarters were they realized how unhappy they were about mobile phone design.
Tag Heuer Meridiist has been officially announced. Full-metal body of Tag Heuer Meridiist will cost you from €3,400 to €3,900 depending on options. For this price you get a Sapphire crystal display, 1.9-inch QVGA display, OLED 96×76 pixel secondary display, 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, leather trim, and a metal casing. This piece of art will go up to 7 hours of talk time.
The Tag Heuer Meridiist mobile phone is made from watch-making stainless steel and has two unscratchable 60.5 carat sapphire crystal displays. It displays the time in a 96×76 monochromatic OLED screen in the upper part of the phone and comes with a 2.0 megapixel camera, MP3 player and bluetooth technology.The phone is designed with the best engineering laboratories. 430 components were assembled by hand in France.The 316L stainless steel was manufactured with the most complex technologies. Scratch resistant sapphire is the second hardest material after diamond.
The Tag Heuer Meridiist mobile phone will be available in September 2008 in Tag Heuer boutiques and selected watch and jewelry stores. The price tag of the Meridiist will be somewhere between 3,400-3,900 euros, depending on the chosen modification.
It seems like Vertu will finally have some serious competition.
