Alcatel OT-S520

Posted in: Alcatel

This is a dual-band phone, so don’t expect to take it with you on your next round the world trip. However, switch the phone on in the UK and, not surprisingly, you can just start tapping the number pad to make a call. To get a text message on the go you hit the right softmenu button and then choose to create a message. Easy. MMS is supported to, but not mobile email.

The number pad, though, is the Devil’s work. I’d guess this phone has two primary target markets. The young, who aren’t to be trusted with a highly featured phone or one on prepay, and anyone who want something basic. I’d advise that second group to try this phone out before buying it because of its keys. Kids can probably cope but others, particularly some older people, may struggle. Alcatel E227

Posted by: rubbi

Posted in: Alcatel

The Alcatel E227 is 2G network compatible with GSM 900/1800 and can be used in most parts of the world such as Europe, Middle East, Africa and most of Asia. The phone was announced in February 2007 and it still is available in the market at this very moment. The dimensions of this phone are 87 mm by 45 mm by 21 mm and it weighs only 70 grams, which is lighter than a 500-page book.

It displays on TFT or in a thin filmed transistor with 65K of colors. Using an LCD is an improvement of past models which used CSTN, but most users of this phone claim that this is one of the waterloos of the phone as the screen can be too dark to see in poor lighting conditions. The screen could display 128 by 128 pixels which is about 1.5 inches and it has customizable screen savers and wallpapers. Read the rest of this entry »

Alcatel OT C825

Posted by: rubbi

Posted in: Alcatel

The Alcatel OT-C825 offers a distinctive feel which makes the phone look more expensive than it is.

The most unique design characteristics is the leather-like surface on the back cover as well as the left side.

What I liked most is the scratch-resistant glossy rim which was inserted in the back panel as well as the bevelled side rims which gave the phone a rather accomplished look.

The back panel housed a 1.3-megapixel camera which I could use without having to slide the phone open. The panel on the right houses the camera and volume buttons while the left side has a Micro SD as well as a USB slot. Read the rest of this entry »

Alcatel OT-S210

Posted by: rubbi

Posted in: Alcatel

Alcatel’s mobile phones don’t always impress me hugely and recent models have been a bit of a let-down. For example, the Mandarina Duck, produced primarily as a tie-in with the bag brand of the same name, didn’t do it for me, and nor did the OT-E201 mainly because of its poor user interface. These handsets were a surprise as Alcatel tends to think carefully about design and offers phones that meet its budget users’ requirements nicely.

So I am glad to report that we are back on form with the OT-S210 which comes out of this review well, overall, but as ever for a budget phone, it lost out on scores for features. Read the rest of this entry »

Alcatel OT-E201

There are quite a few people out there who want a mobile phone for making phone calls. I mean just for making phone calls. And maybe for the odd text message. Nothing more.

I know people in this group and they ask me whether such a phone exists. They grumble that when they go into high street phone stores the staff want to sell them music phones, thin phones, internet phones, phones with high resolution cameras, and phones that make tea.

There are, in fact, a number of low cost, low feature phones around to satisfy this need. The last one I looked at in this bracket was Sagem’s £20 My215x. Read the rest of this entry »

Alcatel Mandarina Duck

Posted by: epi

Posted in: Alcatel

Phones from Alcatel tend to be in the lower price bracket even when they have features like music playing at their core. However, it also has half an eye on fashion.

Recently the fashion end of things has become more prominent with several phones being tied in with fashion brands. There’s the Elle No3 handset, the LG Prada KE850 and now the dual-band Mandarina Duck mobile.

For those not in the know, Mandarina Duck is a bag maker. Regarded by many as super-stylish it does all sorts of bags from travel cases to handbags and backpacks to brief cases. Some would say I do the company a disservice by leaving it there, but this is a phone review not a bag review, and if you don’t know the company and want to find out more you can always pop along to the website.
