I have to say that the addition of WM5 alone has minimised most of the shortcomings of the x50v.
For one thing, since the handheld now runs on a persistent storage model (see sidebar) it no longer has to reserve battery power to keep the RAM from losing memory when power gets too low to keep the screen on.
Previously, Microsoft required that a large portion of the battery life of the handheld be reserved so that when battery levels fell to a level too low to support the LCD screen, the handheld would still have enough reserve power to keep the data intact in RAM for 48 hours or so.
According to Microsoft, keeping RAM running even when the screen is off amounts to nearly 40% of the reserve power of the battery, and removing this restriction in WM5 alone has drastically increased usable time of the handheld. Read the rest of this entry »
