Pantech Slate C530, first announced by AT&T together with three other new QWERTY phones, is now available for purchase from the largest North American mobile carrier.

Presented as the world’s thinnest handset to feature a full QWERTY keyboard, Pantech Slate can be bought for $49.99, after a $50 mail-in rebate and the signing of a 2-yr contract agreement. Its no commitment price is of $249.99.

The Slate measures 4.2 x 2.5 x 0.39 inches (107 x 63.5 x 9.9 millimeters), so it is, indeed, very slim. Unfortunately, apart from its QWERTY keyboard, the handset doesn’t offer too many features, being an entry-level device.

Pantech, South Korea’s third largest handset manufacturer, is doing well both in its home country and in the US, especially since it has recently announced two new phones for AT&T.

But we’re not going to talk about AT&T’s phones right now, although I’m sure many of its subscribers would wish to have at least one of the devices presented below.

The Pantech Design Community, comprised of 20 college students, has showcased four new concept phones that Pantech might, someday, build.

The first concept is called Coralliform Water. Obviously inspired by the sea and its life, the phone is a slider that somehow looks like a budding flower, when closed. No tech specs were given, but the Coralliform Water seems to have a touchscreen display and a camera.

This phone would especially look good in a lady’s hands and, to be honest, I wouldn’t mind having one. Not at all. Here it is: Read the rest of this entry »

Verizon may have come up with one good looking phone today (Motorola Krave ZN4), but its good old friend AT&T has just announced no less than four new handsets: Pantech Matrix, Samsung Propel, Pantech Slate and AT&T Quickfire.

All of AT&T’s new phones have full QWERTY keyboards, hence they are meant to offer a quick and easy mobile messaging experience to users.

According to a recent Nielsen study, a part of the US mobile phone owners use their handsets more for text messaging and less for talking. Also, AT&T says that text messaging volumes had tripled since 2007, so it’s obvious why the US carrier has decided to bring four new QWERTY-equipped phones.

The only new handset available right away is Pantech Matrix: Sold for $79.99, after a mail-in rebate and the signing of a 2-yr contract, Pantech Matrix has three color versions: navy blue, black & green and red. Similar to the old Pantech Duo, the Matrix comes with an alphanumeric keyboard in addition to the QWERTY one. Read the rest of this entry »

Pantech Breeze

Posted by: rubbi

Posted in: Pantech

Most entry-level phones aren’t too attractive, but the Breeze is an exception. It has a delightfully slim and trim profile, with curved corners and sides. Measuring 3.9 inchs long by 1.97 inches wide by 0.77 inch thick, the Breeze is wrapped in an all-white matte plastic shell and feels nice and light in the hand. The Breeze also comes with a 1.04-inch diagonal external screen, which we like to see on basic phones like this. It supports 65,000 colors and displays information such as date, time, battery, and signal strength, plus photo caller ID. A volume rocker sits on the left spine as does the charger jack. On the back of the phone is the camera lens, but there is no self-portrait mirror. When you open the phone, you’ll find a very bright and vibrant 2.2-inch display with 260,000 color support. Images look simply brilliant, with sharp graphics and colors that pop. There are two menu interface styles–”breEZe” mode, which organizes the options in a simple list, Read the rest of this entry »

Pantech C810 Duo

Posted by: cellphones

Posted in: Pantech

The Duo (also known as the C810) is a dual-slider handset that sports both a traditional numeric keypad and a full QWERTY keyboard. In order to accomplish this, a few compromises had to be made. For one, at 102mm x 50mm x 22mm (4.0″ x 2.0″ x .9″), the Duo is not a particularly thin handset. Its 128g (4.5oz) weight isn’t going to set any records either. But all in all, Pantech did a fairly good job of keeping the size and weight of the device under control, which keeps the Duo looking, for the most part, like any other slider smartphone.
