Your one stop cellphones info

Pantech Slate C530, first announced by AT&T together with three other new QWERTY phones, is now available for purchase from the largest North American mobile carrier.

Presented as the world’s thinnest handset to feature a full QWERTY keyboard, Pantech Slate can be bought for $49.99, after a $50 mail-in rebate and the signing of a 2-yr contract agreement. Its no commitment price is of $249.99.

The Slate measures 4.2 x 2.5 x 0.39 inches (107 x 63.5 x 9.9 millimeters), so it is, indeed, very slim. Unfortunately, apart from its QWERTY keyboard, the handset doesn’t offer too many features, being an entry-level device.

nokia 5200

Posted in: Nokia

Nokia 5200 has similar looks to Nokia 5300 XpressMusic and is one of the most desirable mobile phone for the youngsters. Nokia has blended the design and features in this phone to meet the demands of a new section of users, offering a fresh and trendy experience. This phone was launched at the same time as Nokia 5300 with a difference. There are two main differences between these two phones, the display and the camera. Nokia 5200 measures 92.4 x 48.2 x 20.7 mm and has a weight of 104 grams. It is a GSM handset, operating on 900/1800/1900MHz GSM frequency bands.

The Nokia 5200 is a slide-opening phone and looks much like Nokia 6111. For camera and radio, Nokia 5200 has two dedicated keys at the side, which may be easily accessed and has a smooth 5-way navigation key that works nicely. You will find the volume key on the right side of the phone and this key doubles up as the 4x zoom key when the VGA camera is switched on. The video camera has 176 x 144 pixels resolution and shoots at the rate of 15 frames per second, with video capture and playback features. The camera is on the back of the phone for taking photos.

The TFT display of this phone is not as good as you find in Nokia 5300 and has a resolution of 128 x 160 pixels with 262,144 colours. The music button in Nokia 5200 could be found on the side of the phone and is used for switching on the MP3 player or the radio. Nokia 5200 has a microSD slot and the disadvantage is that, you need to open the back lid of the phone to reach the slot. The slot cannot be reached otherwise. As usual with Nokia phones, the power button of Nokia 5200 is located on the top of the handset and you will find the USB port and the charger socket just near the power button. The battery has a stand-by specification of 263 hours and the talk time achieved is 3.2 hours.

Nokia 5200 has GPRS Class 10 and EDGE capabilities, a FM radio and a music player supporting MP3, SpMidi, AAC, AAC+ and enhanced AAC+ formats. It has MP3, video and 64-voice polyphonic ring-tones. It supports all basic features, such as, SMS, MMS, Instant Messaging, email, Alarm clock, Reminders, Stopwatch, Countdown timer, Calculator, Calendar, Notes, etc. The phone uses a XHTML web browser. BlackBerry 8300

Posted in: BlackBerry

The BlackBerry Curve 8300 is an excellent device for keeping in touch with your email whilst out of the office. With extensive push email support and a full QWERTY keypad, emailing on your phone becomes a completely practical possibility. Other features such as a 2 megapixel camera, media player, Bluetooth connectivity and expandable memory complete the package.

The BlackBerry 8300 is exactly the same as the BlackBerry Curve 8310, except that it doesn’t have GPS navigation. Read our review of the 8310, since all of the comments apply equally to both phones, apart from this one difference. Read the rest of this entry »

Sharp GX 10

The Sharp GX10 mobile phone was one of the first camera phones and includes an integrated digital camera with 110,000 pixels, digital zoom and storage for up to 80 pictures. Whilst the GX1 features a high quality TFT display, it suffers from having a poor quality camera and no easy way of transferring pictures from the phone to a PC. It is also an unreliable phone. Also consider the newer Sharp GX10i which has triband capability and improved camera functions.

LG CU500V

Posted by: rubbi

Posted in: LG

The LG CU500V offers AT&T’s new Video Share feature that lets you make video calls. It’s also a HSDPA quad-band world phone with a great slim design, external music buttons, and a camera with a rotating lens. Features include a 1.3-megapixel camera, an audio player, a microSD memory card slot, a speakerphone, and access to exclusive content, courtesy of Cellular Video and AT&T Music.

The LG CU500V has two superskinny function buttons on the side that are difficult to press; we also didn’t like that you have to remove the battery in order to get to the microSD card slot.

The LG CU500V is one of the fastest phones we’ve ever tried, with swift downloads, impressive video-streaming speeds, and the ability to make video calls with AT&T’s Video Share service. The feature set is impressive; the picture and audio quality are great; and the slim, attractive design is a bonus.

The “V” in the LG CU500V’s name stands for Video, and that’s the key feature separating it from the LG CU500. The LG CU500V has a new video-calling feature from AT&T called Video Share, which is the country’s first nationwide video-calling service. It isn’t perfect–it only streams video one-way and it’ll only work with certain phones–but the potential for live video streaming outweighs these concerns. Imagine shopping for something, and being able to stream live video of your choices to a friend for an opinion, for example. That said, everything else about the LG CU500V is exactly the same as the LG CU500. From the thin flip phone design to the high-speed HSDPA, the LG CU500V mirrors the LG CU500. So if you already have the LG CU500, I wouldn’t upgrade unless you really want the Video Share service. Read the rest of this entry »

O2 Jet

Posted by: rubbi

Posted in: O2

Not long ago I looked at Nokia’s E60, a handset unashamedly aimed at the business user. Utilising the Symbian S60 operating system, it offered a full range of smartphone features such as PC synchronisation (including over the air sync for corporate networks), Wi-Fi, 3G, a high resolution screen and decent Web browsing facilities. Its missing camera, an odd choice of memory expansion support and poor battery life went against it.

O2’s camera-free handset, the Quad-band Jet, may tempt many business users. It has two headline grabbing features: no camera and, to quote O2’s Web site ‘incredible battery life’.

In many respects the Jet is not a patch on Nokia’s E60. Where built in software is concerned, if the E60 is Fred Astaire, the Jet is more of a penguin in Wellington boots. In fact, there is only one reason you are likely to plump for this handset. Like O2 says, the battery life is indeed incredible. Read the rest of this entry »

Samsung SGH-J700

Posted by: rubbi

Posted in: Samsung

Samsung’s J700 is fairly widely available. You can pick it up on O2 pay and go and Vodafone pay as you talk in black, but only Orange has the purple version. This purple SGH-J700 is available on Orange pay as you go for £69.99, and Orange supplied me with a review sample.

This is a slider handset and its looks are pretty standard in comparison to some of Samsung’s mobiles. It doesn’t have a touchscreen and isn’t amazingly tiny, nor does it have a fancy mega-sophisticated camera and in fact it doesn’t claim to be super-duper at anything.

‘Style with substance’ is the phrase used to describe the SGH-J700. I’d certainly go with the ‘style’ part of the equation as the phone looks rather nice albeit in a predictable and understated kind of way. I’m not so sure about the ‘substance’, though. What is on offer in terms of specifications is at the lower end of mid-range. Read the rest of this entry »
